Quality Vintage Audio from the 60’s and 70’s is quite valuable. With elbow grease and use of new components the speakers can be rebuilt, the cabinets can be refinished, the electronics of the cross-overs can be upgraded and metal mesh speaker grills are added to make them bullet proof, or for this application cat proof. See the step by step journey to bring these speakers back to life. The speakers in this rebuild are Altec Lansing Model 9’s. This particular set was purchased in 1977 and must have seen some love and hard use. The speaker surrounds rotted away, the cabinets were water damaged and stained and some oak veneer needed repaired. Was it worth it. Yes, new speakers similar to these Altec Lansings Model 9’s are quite expensive new. The sound quality of these vintage speakers is still top quality. Shown in a few pictures is a Marantz 2285B integrated receiver also from 1977. It was recently refurbished by a certified technician and is performing as new. To bring the system into this century a Blue Tooth adapter is used in the AUX input and is linked to an iPhone.
